There are two Maytags in Boston basements. The older one was engineered and built in Newton, Iowa, until Whirlpool bought the company in 2006 and shut the plant in 2007. Those Dependable Care top-loaders and Neptune front-loaders share nothing with a modern machine: their own transmissions, their own boards, and a parts supply that thins every year. The newer Maytag is a Whirlpool platform with heavier panels, a different control overlay and, on laundry, the ten-year limited parts warranty on the drive motor and the wash basket or dryer drum. Read the wording: it covers those parts, not the bearings, belt, pump or board around them, and labor only in the first year on most models.
One current Maytag still behaves like the old ones. The 3.5-cubic-foot commercial-grade residential washer, assembled in Clyde, Ohio, is belt-driven with a dual-action agitator and simple mechanical-style controls, and it stays field-repairable in a way the electronic top-loaders do not.
On the cooking side, Maytag ranges and wall ovens are Whirlpool builds behind a Maytag panel: the igniter, the hidden bake element and the control board carry the same part numbers.

Often, but it depends on the part. Belts, pumps, lid switches and many transmission components for the Newton-era top-loaders are still available new or as old stock. Control boards and door assemblies for the Neptune front-loaders are the scarce items. If the failure is in one of those and no stock exists, the honest answer is replacement, and we will say so before ordering.
From year two through ten it covers specific parts only: the drive motor and the wash basket, or the dryer drum. Labor is yours, and everything else, including the tub bearings that usually fail on a front-loader, is outside it. Some newer models add five years of parts and labor; the product warranty sheet says which. The claim runs through Maytag, with the purchase receipt.
Yes, in the sense that matters. It is a belt-driven agitator machine with a simple control scheme, so the parts that wear, the belt, the drive clutch area and the shift actuator, are reachable and inexpensive. It is still a Whirlpool-built machine, so those parts come from the same supply chain. What it lacks is the electronics that make the high-efficiency top-loaders expensive to diagnose.
When the tub bearing goes. On many Maytag front-loaders the bearing is not sold on its own; it comes pressed into an outer tub half, and the job is a full teardown. On a machine past eight or nine years, that cost sits close to a new unit. A failed door lock, drain pump or board is a different story and is normally worth doing.
