Where an HVAC estimate comes from
An HVAC repair is priced on a system, not a box. Indoor unit, outdoor unit, line set, ducts, and controls each fail differently, and the diagnostic finds which of them is at fault. From there the estimate splits into labor, parts, and refrigerant, and the third one stretches the range.
A capacitor, contactor, or control board is quick to reach and priced on the part. Anything that opens the refrigerant circuit is not: federal rules require refrigerant to be recovered, not vented, and the system is then leak-checked, evacuated, and recharged, which is labor and material on top of the part. Production of R-22 ended in 2020, so an older system on it runs on reclaimed supply, and recharging a leak on one is money put into equipment that cannot be sustained. On the heating side, an igniter or flame sensor is a repair; a failed heat exchanger is a replacement conversation.
Access is the rest of the spread: a condenser behind a fence or on a roof, an air handler in an attic, a mini-split head with its line set buried in the wall. Where the numbers stop making sense, you hear it at diagnosis, before parts are ordered.
The diagnostic fee is waived when you book the repair with us. Parts are quoted separately and always shown before fitting.
