Frigidaire's top-freezer refrigerators and upright freezers came from Anderson, South Carolina, until 2026, when Electrolux moved refrigeration to a joint venture with Midea in Juarez and began winding Anderson down, July through December, to retool it for washers and dryers due in 2027. Those Anderson top-freezers, the plain landlord refrigerator in a great many Boston apartments, are among the simplest boxes sold: a fixed-speed compressor, a defrost heater and thermostat, one evaporator fan, an adaptive defrost control. They are cheap to fix and worth fixing.
Frigidaire ranges, built in Springfield, Tennessee, are less forgiving. The electronic oven control reads the cavity through an RTD probe; when the probe drifts or a relay on the board welds shut, the oven overheats and the control shuts it down with a runaway-temperature fault. The probe is a quick swap; the board is a wait.
Freezers are a rating question. Frigidaire's "garage-ready" uprights are specified for 0 to 110 degrees ambient, which matters on an unheated back porch; standard uprights and the imported chest freezers stop calling for cooling once the room is as cold as the box.

A standard freezer in a cold space sees the ambient near its set point, the thermostat stops calling, and food thaws slowly while the compressor sits idle. Move it inside or accept the rating limit; if it fails in a heated room, that is a real fault.
