What Magic Chef appliances we repair

We are a Boston-based company specializing in repairing Magic Chef household appliances. Our team of experienced technicians is dedicated to providing high-quality repair services for a wide range of Maytag appliances, including refrigerator, oven, wall oven, range.

Which Magic Chef you own decides where the part comes from

There are two Magic Chefs in Boston kitchens. Maytag bought the brand in 1986 and Whirlpool inherited it in 2006, so the gas ranges and wall ovens still cooking in triple-deckers are Maytag designs, and their igniters, gas valves and thermostats sit in Whirlpool's parts catalog under Maytag-style numbers. Since 2010 the name has belonged to MC Appliance Corporation, an importer in Wood Dale, Illinois, which had licensed it for compact appliances since 1996 and now puts it on 24-inch ranges, 24-inch wall ovens and ten-cubic-foot top-freezers built by contract factories in Asia.

For the current machines, the model number is everything, because there is no shared platform behind them. The 24-inch electric range and wall oven do share a timer and thermostat, and distributors stock elements, switches and timers for both, but the door assembly is already listed obsolete, superseded by another number, on a range still on sale. On the compact refrigerators, thermostats, start relays and gaskets are available; the sealed system is not stocked as parts at all.

Those 24-inch ranges are what fits a studio kitchen in Allston or Fenway, which is where they end up.

Magic Chef appliance repair cost

The cost of repairing a Magic Chef appliance can be influenced by factors such as the age and type of appliance, complexity of the repair, and availability of parts.

Age of the appliance The age of a Magic Chef appliance can impact the repair cost. Older appliances may require more frequent repairs or more extensive repairs, which can drive up costs.
Type of appliance The type of appliance can also impact the cost of repairs. For example, repairing a Magic Chef refrigerator may cost more than repairing a smaller appliance like a microwave.
Complexity of the repair The complexity of the repair needed can affect the cost. For example, repairing a simple issue like a clogged filter in a range hood will cost less than replacing a motor or compressor in a refrigerator.
Availability of parts The cost of repair may be affected by the availability of replacement parts for a particular model of Magic Chef appliance.

Having a professional diagnose and estimate the cost of repair is crucial in determining the most cost-effective solution for the customer.

Brand questions

Warranty, genuine parts and lead times — the three things people ask first.

Yes, through the Whirlpool parts channel, because that range is a Maytag design. The oven igniter is the usual failure: it glows but never gets hot enough to open the safety valve, so the oven heats late or not at all. Igniters, valves and thermostats are still supplied; some door glass and trim are not. We confirm by model number.
