Hotpoint means different things depending on where you learned the name. In the UK and Ireland it is a European brand: Indesit, then Whirlpool, and since April 2024 Beko Europe. In the United States, Hotpoint has belonged to General Electric since 1918 and is now the entry-level line of GE Appliances, itself owned by Haier. The two share nothing but the name. GE Appliances states it does not support European Hotpoint, and a 230-volt, 50-hertz machine shipped from Britain will not run correctly here anyway.
The American Hotpoint is deliberately plain: coil-top electric and gas ranges, top-freezer refrigerators only, agitator top-load washers with matching dryers, one dishwasher, one over-the-range microwave. No front-loaders, no French doors, few electronics. The top-freezer comes off the same Decatur, Alabama line as the GE-badged version; laundry and ranges are GE Appliances platforms too. A Hotpoint part is a GE part with a GE number.
That plainness is why these machines get fixed rather than replaced. A coil element plugs into a receptacle block, a mechanical-timer dryer has a short list of failure points, and none of it waits on a control board.

No. It was built for 230 volts at 50 hertz, its motor and timer are specified for that frequency, and its parts come through Beko Europe, not GE Appliances. Nothing in the American Hotpoint catalog fits it. A step-up transformer fixes the voltage but not the frequency. It is a different product line that happens to wear the same name.
No, because they are GE parts: the same numbers, the same distribution, often the same box. Lid switches, dryer belts, bake elements and defrost thermostats for a current Hotpoint are stock items. The exception is Hotpoint from the 1980s and 1990s, where some range and refrigerator parts have been discontinued and only substitutes or used stock remain.
Either, and the design makes both easy. The coil plugs into a receptacle block under the cooktop; pitted contacts in that block overheat and stop passing current, and they can scorch a good element. We test the element, inspect the block, and replace whichever failed. Both are inexpensive plug-in parts on this range, which is one reason the coil-top design persists.
When the one expensive node fails. On the top-freezer that is the sealed system: compressor, evaporator or a refrigerant leak, which needs brazing and recovery equipment. On the washer it is the drive assembly or the outer tub. Everything else on a Hotpoint is a small replaceable part, so we tell you which of the two situations you have before recommending anything.
