ACCREDITEDWoburn is older than it looks from the highway. The center is a nineteenth-century tannery town — two-families, tight lots, converted heat — while the postwar streets toward Horn Pond and the Burlington line are ranches and raised split-levels with a condenser added long after the house was finished.
So the same trade name covers two different visits: a cellar in the center reached by a bulkhead and a turn no appliance dolly likes, or a suburban basement you can walk around. We ask which one we're coming to before loading the van.
These stages may vary slightly depending on the type of appliance being repaired and the specific requirements of the client.

Access, parking and what the buildings here do to a service call.
Barely, in daytime. The city's traffic code bans parking on the even side of the street between 2 and 6 a.m. from November 15 to March 31, nothing more. A declared snow emergency is different: no vehicles on any street. One more line matters for us: commercial vehicles over a ton may not stand on a street overnight or at any time on Sunday, except while loading or unloading.
Woburn's zoning overlay tracks the FEMA flood zones, and the Aberjona runs through the city toward Winchester; the city adopted flood maps dated July 2025, so a basement once outside the zone may now be inside it. Before a furnace or water heater is replaced there, we look for a high-water line and ask whether the equipment can sit higher. Check the map with the city first.
Woburn has no local historic district, so there is no design-review board. Its zoning ordinance, as we read it, does not name condensers or heat pumps at all; it has setbacks for accessory structures, and the Building Department decides whether equipment counts. In practice the placement is decided by the line-set run, the neighbor's window and the snow line off the roof.
Usually yes. On the postwar streets toward Horn Pond the pattern is a sixties furnace with an evaporator coil dropped into the plenum decades later and a condenser on its second replacement. They share the blower and the ductwork, nothing else. A failed condenser does not oblige a new furnace, and a cracked heat exchanger does not touch the coil, unless matching parts across the age gap is the problem.
