ACCREDITEDThe Aberjona runs through the middle of town and the basements near it have taken water more than once. On a no-heat call in that stretch we look for a high-water line on the furnace cabinet before anything else — a burner that sat in six inches of river does not fail like one that simply aged.
Elsewhere it is Victorians around Wedgemere and the Center, and rebuilds that replaced them: more equipment per address than the original house ever had, and rarely a label on any of it.
These stages may vary slightly depending on the type of appliance being repaired and the specific requirements of the client.

Only what stays on the street: no vehicle may stand more than an hour between 1 and 7 a.m., with exceptions written for physicians, nurses and clergy, not contractors. Daytime visits are unaffected, and nearly every house has a driveway. If a job carries into a second day, nothing of ours stays overnight, and your own car goes in the driveway, not at the curb.
Yes. Winchester runs an ongoing flood mitigation program and publishes a flood-hazard resource through its Engineering Department, and the Aberjona valley through the center of town is where it applies. Before equipment is replaced in a basement there, we ask whether it has taken water and whether the new unit can sit on a platform or higher on the wall. A burner that has been under water is not repaired.
Not yet. The Select Board appointed a study committee in 2021 and proposed boundaries were published, but no district has been adopted, so there is no design review of exterior changes today. If one is adopted, work visible from a public way inside it would need approval first. For now the question on a Wedgemere Victorian is the wall, the line-set run and the neighbor, not a commission.
The house was built for radiators, and most of Winchester still heats with gas or oil through them. Cooling means ductless heads on the rooms that matter, with a condenser at the rear and a line set down an exterior wall, or window units for the season. A whole-house ducted system in an 1890s house means opening walls and losing closets. We look, then say which the house will tolerate.
