Thermador has belonged to BSH, Bosch's parent, since 1998, and much of the machine is Bosch: the Sapphire and Emerald dishwashers run the Bosch 800-series wash system and share its parts and diagnostics, and Thermador part numbers live in the BSH catalog. What is Thermador's own is the cooktop. The Star burner spreads flame across a star-shaped pattern rather than a ring, and ExtraLow simmer is not a smaller flame but the same flame cycling on and off, averaging 375 BTU/hr and reigniting with a click roughly every minute. That makes the spark module and flame path a wear item on Thermador in a way they are not on a Wolf simmer tier.
Refrigeration is the Freedom column. Each refrigerator or freezer column has its own compressor and evaporator, with the compressor at the bottom so the door sits flush. One column dying leaves its neighbour running. The Freedom induction cooktop is the outlier: up to 56 inductors under one glass, driven from a single touchscreen, with repair complexity to match. A dead area there is a board-level job, not a burner swap.
To determine the cost of repairing a Thermador appliance, customers should consider the quality of specialized parts used, the technical expertise required, the type of appliance, and warranty coverage.
Warranty, genuine parts and lead times — the three things people ask first.
If it relights, no. In any XLO setting the flame is meant to cycle off and reignite about every 60 seconds, and the click is the spark. It is broken when the flame goes out and stays out; then the igniter, the flame-sense circuit or the module behind them is not doing its job. The higher the XLO setting, the longer the flame stays on per cycle.
No. Each Freedom column is a complete unit with its own compressor and evaporator; the two share nothing but the cabinetry. A warm refrigerator column is diagnosed on its own, in order: fan, defrost, gasket, then sealed system, and the freezer column is left alone. The compressor is at the bottom, so it is reached from the base, not from a top grille.
Mostly. Emerald and Sapphire dishwashers are the Bosch 800-series platform under a Thermador panel, so the pump, heater, controls and diagnostics are Bosch parts and Bosch procedures. What differs is the exterior trim and the panel-ready hardware. Parts come through the BSH channel, which stocks Bosch numbers deeply; a Thermador-only trim piece can take longer than a pump.
Both are options, which is not true of every brand. Thermador and Bosch oven boards are among the ones independent board-rebuild shops service, so a board that is back-ordered or discontinued is not the end of the oven. A new board through the BSH channel is the faster route when it is in stock; a rebuild is the route when it is not. Which applies depends on the board number.
